Our Mission
Trail Built exists because most gear "reviews" online are just repackaged spec sheets and Amazon listings. We got tired of reading about gear that nobody had actually used, so we started testing everything ourselves — on real trails, in real conditions, across real miles.
Since 2023, we've driven over 50,000 miles testing overlanding gear, from recovery kits in the Mojave to rooftop tents in the Cascades. Every product recommendation on this site reflects first-hand experience or rigorous research from trusted sources in the overlanding community.
Editorial Standards
We don't accept free products from manufacturers in exchange for reviews. We don't let affiliate relationships influence our ratings. If something breaks on the trail, we say so. Our goal is to help you make the right gear decision — not to maximize clicks.
- We test before we recommend. Products featured as top picks have been field-tested or researched extensively.
- We update our reviews. Gear changes, new models ship, prices shift — we revisit articles regularly.
- We're transparent about limits. If we haven't tested something personally, we say so and explain our research methodology.
